Academics

BYU has top-caliber professors. There is no question that academics at BYU are important, and the administration strives to hire excellent teachers. It is not unusual to come across a professor that is a BYU alumnus. Most professors portray the impression that they have an investment in the success of their students and strive to be available to help students whenever possible. Professors’ teaching styles
do vary, and “shopping around” for a professor is not a bad idea.

Diversity

BYU is not a culturally diverse campus. The majority of students are white, middle-class Mormon kids. However, it is unlikely that you will go the length of your college career without meeting someone from another country. BYU has a large number of countries represented at the University.

There is also added diversity in the fact that over half of
the students have spent significant time outside of the
United States. It is not uncommon to walk around campus
and hear the boy from your psychology class...

Guys & Girls

BYU students are well known as being uncommonly friendly and inclusive. Although they may look intimidating at first, with their seemingly uniform blond hair and Abercrombie & Fitch clothing, the majority is surprisingly nice, and, if you look hard enough, you may even notice that not quite all of the students are from Utah. Cultural diversity on campus is not big in the common sense, but students are amazingly receptive and knowledgeable about other cultures, as most have lived abroad for anywhere from six...

Athletics

BYU football is a Utah County tradition. BYU takes a lot of pride in athletics, and student support is consistently consistent. The fall semester is punctuated with comments around campus supporting/bemoaning the football team. Historically, BYU has done well in our division, although we recently left the WAC. We do have sports aside from football, but they aren’t really noticed unless they are doing well. Intramural sports are big around campus—many students get involved, especially in the spring and...
