Academics

“The teachers are fun and pretty cool. They’re really friendly and helpful. They enjoy being friends with students. The classes are all interesting. Some can be boring, but for the most part, you learn a lot.”

Diversity

There are not a lot of students from your traditional minority groups (although there are more women than men on campus), however, I feel one of the ways we alleviate this problem is by bringing in students from other countries.”

Guys & Girls

“A lot of the guys are hot. The girls are hot, too. The girl-to-guy ratio is way slanted to the girls side. They’re everywhere.”

Athletics

“Varsity sports are kind of a big deal, but really only basketball, and then just when they are winning. People attend the events, but basketball always draws the largest crowd. Intramural sports on campus are huge, or they are to those people who partake...”

Academics

Centenary is small—very small. Most of the classes have around 15 students. Classes tend to be more discussion-oriented than lecture, which makes them much more interesting. While small, intimate classes are fun for discussion and give you a great opportunity to get to know your professor, there are a few drawbacks. For one, if you miss a class, the teacher will notice. Also, if you haven’t read, shrinking down in your seat and staring at your open book will not make you disappear. The academic atmosphere...

Diversity

Centenary was once a white, all-male college. While things have changed a lot since 1825, the College still lacks a diverse student body and faculty. The students are still overwhelming white, though now the girls vastly outnumber the guys. Most of the African Americans are on the guy’s basketball team. There is a minority club on campus and an African American fraternity. While the College isn’t adverse to a diverse student body, Centenary seems to be unable to attract many other people besides white,...

Guys & Girls

Most of the girls on campus complain about the lack of male students. Centenary desperately needs more guys. The good guys are all taken, and the rest are gay. (Not really, but sometimes it seems that way.) Male students entering Centenary should have no problem finding a date or multiple dates. Hookups vary from engagements to drunken, one-night flings. Most couples are pretty reserved, confining PDA to handholding and quick kisses. While there is a 3 a.m. curfew in dorms for opposite-sex visitors, as long...

Athletics

When you tell people that you attend Centenary College, the response is often either “Where’s that?” or “Didn’t Robert Parish go there?” Though Centenary is not incredibly well-known for its athletics, the school did have its glory days. Back in the 1930s, the College had an amazing football team. And of course, the school was once home to Robert Parish. It’s a bit different today. There’s no football team, and basketball, while popular, doesn’t have the electric atmosphere it once had. But don’t think that...
