Academics

“Based on my experience, overwhelmingly, I have an excellent opinion of the faculty. Nearly every one of them is highly intelligent and caring; I’ve never heard of one refusing to give a student a break or an extension, and they always leave home numbers...”

Diversity

“It’s not very diverse. There are very few minority students, though the school increases efforts every year to increase minority enrollment. If a diverse campus is a top priority for you, stay away from HC.”

Guys & Girls

“It’s a very preppie school—you can’t go wrong wearing anything from Abercrombie, J.Crew, and L.L. Bean. There is a clique of girls who have a curious habit of wearing Ann Taylor-style clothes and pearls, which makes them look more like country club moms...”

Athletics

Intramurals are not hugely popular at HC, but basketball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, softball, and tennis all offer chances to compete with friends and have fun.”

Academics

The students almost unanimously praise their professors for their interest in course material and their efforts to make potentially boring classes interesting. Professors at Holy Cross are true educators. They all want to see their students develop into not just informed individuals, but critical-thinking men and women. Professors’ passion for their subject matter carries through into the classroom, where students are inspired by, and therefore enjoy, their classes.

As a small institution with a caring...

Diversity

The fact that Holy Cross is not diverse is no secret; most students agree that “the campus is not very diverse.” Although Admissions is trying to make the campus more multicultural, it is difficult to attract minority students to a school that is already so overwhelmingly white and Catholic. None of the respondents even tried to make excuses for Holy Cross’ lack of diversity. Although the school has really been trying to attract more students from different backgrounds, it nonetheless remains overwhelmingly...

Guys & Girls

Given the general lack of diversity at Holy Cross, it’s not surprising that most of the guys and girls are “cut from the same mold,” as one student put it. The campus, as a whole, is extremely preppy, and the majority of students seem to be from upper-middle-class backgrounds, so comparisons to catalogue models are particularly apt. The majority of guys and girls are good-looking in the clean-cut, preppy way. There are a few guys and girls who are particularly hot, and a few who are strikingly hideous, but...

Athletics

There is no question that basketball is the most popular sport on campus. Holy Cross is in the Patriot League, the champion of which is guaranteed a place in the NCAA tournament. Although Holy Cross hasn’t won the tournament since 1948, the school is now focusing on strengthening both its men’s and women’s programs. Football is also popular, but, as a few students said, it’s mostly about the tailgating. Although Holy Cross hasn’t fielded a competitive team in about 30 years, alumni flock to football games...
