Fordham has always maintained an excellent academic reputation in its individual departments, but many students find themselves surprised by the rigid nature of the core curriculum. All students must take one course in rhetoric, one in math, one course in the fine arts, one global studies course, one course that meets the American Pluralism requirement, a freshman seminar, two literature courses, two philosophies, two theologies, two history courses, two natural sciences, two social sciences, and a senior...

Diversity

Fordham’s diversity depends on your standard. The population is 77 percent Caucasian, which may or may not impress you. Classes at Lincoln Center usually feel ethnically mixed, especially in the social science programs. Rose Hill is a little “lighter,” but it maintains an adequate mixture of students. Many minority students are left unmoved by the student make-up; others find the combination inspiring and refreshing. Women outnumber men at both campuses, more so at Lincoln Center due to its dance program....

Guys & Girls

Is any one college student ever truly happy with his or her dating scene? Lincoln Center females are easily frustrated by their overwhelming numbers on campus, and also the fact that a good number of the available males are gay. The lack of a social community doesn’t help them either. Unfortunately, Rose Hill women tend to find the same jock-and-beer men over and over again.

Athletics

Although Fordham is a Division I school in athletics, sports are not necessarily a major part of student life. Any trace of athleticism is absent from Lincoln Center, while many Rose Hill students are merely bored by their school’s poor athletic record. Club sports are growing in popularity as they prove to be an enjoyable, low-stress alternative to the varsity world. Students form strong communities in intramural and club sports.
