Furman prides itself on the high level of personal attention each student receives from his or her professors. Many choose to work at Furman over larger, more research-oriented schools because of their strong commitment to teaching undergraduates. While professors are required to hold office hours everyday, most are available whenever students decide to drop by to discuss a project or just to chat. Diversity

Clearly the numbers speak for themselves. Furman is not
a diverse place. The administration would desperately like to attract a more diverse student body, and hopefully this will happen in the future. It is true that Furman is more diverse than it used to be, but the student population is still about 90 pecent white. Of course, many of these students come from various geographical and ideological backgrounds, but whatever diversity Furman has is difficult to see just by looking.

Guys & Girls

Whether running around the lake or heading to the mall, Furman students work hard to keep up their appearances. But even without all the work, Furman has attractive people. Of course, not everyone here could be on a magazine cover, but there are very few complaints about looks from guys or girls. Everyone seems to admire everyone else’s polished conservative style, but girls are often left wondering why they can’t get a date. Athletics

Furman athletics are not nearly as big as they are at many larger institutions. However, Furman does have several very strong teams. Football gets the most attention on campus and has the best turnout, but the soccer and golf teams are also very competitive. Intramural and club sports have a strong presence on campus with a high level of participation. There seems to be something for all students, whether they are serious about their sport or they are trying it out for the first time.
