Plain and simple—Mudd is about academics. Students who last here rarely take the easy way out. Mudders are always looking for new challenges to push themselves academically. It’s a rough time at Mudd if you’ve always been used to getting good grades, because high scores won’t happen here automatically. Sometimes, the stress level can run high because academics are so competitive; however, Mudders are generally less combative with each other than at other schools. Diversity

Harvey Mudd, without having a high percentage of non-Asian minorities, still manages to be quite diverse. Students here come from all over the world, and everyone is very willing to share their experiences with each other. People here have been known to make duct tape menorahs and teach each other languages. Guys & Girls

Mudd is definitely not a happening place for guy-girl interaction. Most Mudders were nerds in high school, and not surprisingly, are nerds in college. It’s not unusual for students to arrive at HMC having never had a boyfriend or girlfriend before. In spite of their lack of social skills, though, Mudders usually don’t have too much trouble finding a special someone, whether on campus or off. Harvey Mudd gets the reputation of being too focused on academics to hold any athletes or athletic interest; however, a lot of Mudders did play a sport in high school.
