The teachers at Santa Clara take a special interest in making sure that students are engaged with the subject matter. Most will take the time to sit down personally with a student and address any confusions or concerns the student might have, or even just discuss a particular concept in more depth. Classes are structured to encourage participation and dialogue between peers, making them far more interesting and beneficial.

Overall Experience
Santa Clara -
Santa Clara, CA
Santa Clara is not like most schools. It is a small, Jesuit university, and its strengths and weaknesses stem from that. The academics and facilities are top-notch, and the school spares no expense on the facilities. The size of the school makes it difficult to remain competitive in Division I sports, but baseball and men’s and women’s soccer are always contenders, and men’s basketball has begun receiving national attention in the past few years. The social scene is limited compared to larger schools, but it is also less exclusive and stressful. So should you come to Santa Clara?
It depends what you want from college. If you want a high-quality education, you should definitely come; if you want Girls Gone Wild to do a special at your frat house, probably not. If you like surfing, skiing, hiking, climbing, or the outdoors in general, you will like the area; if you want to go clubbing four nights a week, you probably won’t. If you’re into drinking or smoking pot, the scene here probably won’t disappoint you; if you prefer blowing coke or dropping E, it probably will.

"Santa Clara is an awesome school if you make the most of it. This requires some effort on your part to get involved in the many different things there are to do here. But nobody’s going to make you do it, so you’ll have to be motivated coming in."

"I am from pretty close, about 30 miles away. I came here to be reasonably close to my folks and still have a great education from a prestigious university that will allow me to continue my education at grad school. I would give my experience here a 7.5 out of 10. I would like it to be a bigger school with more of a social atmosphere, but if I was, then my grades would probably be worse than they already are, so it’s probably good that I am here."

"Campus is beautiful, the surrounding area blows, small classes, bunch of loser frat guys, bunch of hot girls, no football, basketball’s getting good, and facilities are good. What else? Oh, there’s high-quality weed all over the place."

"The desolation of the surrounding area forces the students into a tight-knit community. I like that community, even if there are some frat guys I’m not crazy about."

"I like it, but it’s all what you put into it. Some people get down on the school early on; you know, as soon as they get here they’re saying the social life sucks and we don’t have a football team or whatever. I think those people are really missing out on all the good stuff SC has to offer."
